Usefulness of F-18 FDG PET/CT Imaging in a Case of Idiopathic inflammatory myopathy

Abstract
Idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) is a rare disease characterized by proximal skeletal muscle weakness. In this case, a 79-year-old woman was referred to our institution due to prolonged myalgia, weakness and fever. Whole-body F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) revealed prominent muscle uptake in both legs, suggesting the possibility of myositis and contributing to the early diagnosis by prompting further evaluation. This report focused on the effectiveness and advantages of the primary application of PET/CT in the diagnostic process of IIM.
