Abstract
Aim: To assess the functional outcome of tension band wiring in transverse fracture of olecranon process of ulna. Materials and Methods : This is a prospective descriptive study. 20 patients with displaced transverse fractures of patella treated by modified tension band wiring were instructed to follow the rehabilitation protocol of early mobilization. For the evaluation, all the patients were graded during follow-up for clinical and radiological results as per criteria laid by Rogers et al9. Results: Total of 20 patients was enrolled in this study. The average age of the patients in the present study was 38 years (16-60 yrs) range. The present study showed that type 2 were the most common type of fracture involving 14 (70%) cases. In this study fracture of the olecranon was more common in males (80%) as compared to females (20%). In the present study 17 cases (85%) showed excellent and good results while 3 cases (15%) had unsatisfactory outcome in patients with TBW. Conclusion: Tension band wiring fixation remains the "gold standard" for the treatment of displaced and minimally comminuted olecranon fractures despite the introduction of newer implants designed specifically to address the complications of TBW.

Key words: Modified tension band wiring, olecranon fractures, extensor mechanism of elbow.
