Traumatic ocular blunt truma in a child-lessons to learn

Abstract
A 10 year old boy presented with acute blurring of vision and pain of the left eye following a close range injury with gun pellet. Visual acuity was counting finger, with total hyphaema and intraocular pressure of 48 mmHg. He was admitted and initially given medical treatment. However, anterior chamber washout was performed for non- resolving hyphaema with persistent high intraocular pressure. Post- operatively, anterior subcapsular cataract and vitreous haemorrhage was noted. The optic disc was pale, and intraocular pressure remained normal without antiglaucoma medication.We report a case of paediatric ocular injury with relatively late presentation to tertiary centre. This report is valuable to highlight and increase awareness among primary care providers and parents regarding the importance of ocular blunt trauma among children in particular.
