Abstract
Delta hepatitis has been known worldwide and prevalence is decreasing in European and more advance countries while in the Asia Pacific region, the prevalence is staying the same or increased.1 It occurs with hepatitis B as super infection or co-infection. In either case, the disease seems to become more severe although, there are possibilities at one virus might suppress the others.2 Patients who have hepatitis D seem to have more severe liver disease.2-4 More importantly, some of these patient’s have tendency to progress to hepatocellular carcinoma.4-6
In Pakistan problem of hepatitis B has been highlighted also in southern parts of the country. In certain places the prevalence ranges from 23% to 30% in patient who have hepatitis B. 3,7,8 Hepatitis D also tense to occur in combination with B as well as C because apparently the mode of transmission has similar.1,4 Intravenous drug abuse, homosexuality, prostitution, hemodialysis are some of risk factors for delta hepatits.1
