Impact of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease on health related quality of life

Abstract
Objective: To determine the impact of COPD on health related quality of life in Gulab Devi Hospital.
Methodology: In this cross sectional descriptive study, SF-36 questionnaire was used to collect the data from 101 patients aged 35 to 85 years of either gender. Patients with mild and moderate COPD were included. COPD with other systemic illnesses and muscular dystrophy were excluded.
Results: Out of 101 patients, 95.05% were males and 4.95% females. 95.05% were patients with moderate and 4.95% were patients with mild disease. 82.19% were limited a lot and 18.81% were limited a little with vigorous activity. Out of 101 patients, 7.92% were most of time, 14.85% good bit of time, 48.51% some time and 28.71% were little bit of time who felt downhearted and blue. Out of 101 patients, 11.88% were all of time, 42.57% were most of time, 9.90% were good bit of time, 26.73% were some of time and 8.91% were little bit of time who felt tired.
Conclusion: Physical limitations and psychological status impacted the HRQL in patients with COPD. It impacted on patient’s physical, emotional, social activities of daily routine.
