Abstract
Objective: To examine the relationship between marital quality and mental health of married adults of Punjab.
Methodology: We studied 600 married adults (men=233, women=367) from Khushab and Sargodha districts of Punjab with mean age of 35 years. Demographic form and two standardized scales including Marital Relationship Questionnaire and Mental Health Scale were used to measure marital quality and mental health respectively. For data analysis, correlation and t-test were computed using SPSS Version 21.
Results: There was significant positive correlation between marital quality and mental health of married adults. Significant gender differences were found in terms of marital quality (adjustment, marital satisfaction and relations with in-laws) and mental health. Men showed higher marital quality while women were more mentally healthy as compared to men.
Conclusion: Married women showed low level of marital quality while men were more adjusted in their marriage relationship and were enjoying relationship with in-laws. Married women showed better mental health as compared to men.
