Abstract
Objective: To compare the efficacy of Paroxetine with and without L-Methyl folate in patients with major depressive disorder.
Methodology: A total of 160 major depressive disorder patients were divided into two groups with 80 patients in each group. All were treated with Paroxetine 20mg/day with L. methyl folate and without L. methyl folate for 2 months. All were examined clinically, and their demographic and medical history was recorded. Data were analyzed by SPSS 22.
Results: The symptom “sleep disturbance and weight gain improved significantly in treatment groups (p<0.05) at 90 days. Weight gain reduction was higher (37.5%) for antidepressant Group A: (Paroxetine 20 mg/day). L-methyl folate with Paroxetine were more effective to reduce the depression symptoms than single Paroxetine group and led to substantial symptomatic improvement faster than monotherapy.
Conclusion: L-methyl folate with Paroxetine was most effective in reducing the depression symptoms than other Paroxetine alone and led to substantial symptomatic improvement faster than monotherapy.

Key words: Paroxetine, L. methyl folate, depressive disorder, MDD.
